Day Twenty Five

Don had a great night! They brought an oxygen mask they call a "tent" that rests on your chest and comes up in front of your mouth and nose. This way, being a mouth breather, he can get the oxygen better. He only set his alarm off a couple of times and when I would get up to see, he had turned his head to the side, but the mask had not gone with him. I just adjusted his mask and he was fine. You could tell a big difference in his appearance this morning. His eyes looked brighter as well as his complexion. I'm not saying he slept the night through, but he slept much more than he has been sleeping. After breakfast, they placed the stockings on his legs that will help with the swelling. He called my name a little later and said "look I am moving my right leg all on my own". Even though his right leg was not injured in the accident, Don has been unable to lift it on his own due to the swelling. I couldn't lift it by myself either. A little later, he called out to me again and said "look I'm moving my left foot & ankle". He had a big smile on his face. He also shared with the nurse what he had accomplished and said "it might not mean a lot to some folks, but it does to me". The nurse & I assured him that it meant a lot to all of us. We are so proud of him and so glad for him. Please just keep praying! We are doing Christmas with the kids today. Don had said from the beginning he didn't want to have Christmas in the hospital. But when we got the news Christmas Eve that he would be going to the nursing facility we all talked it over and decided that we better give the kids their gifts as some of them are definitely seasonal. I will post more later if PT comes by today or if there is any other news.
