Don slept well last night & ate all his breakfast, feeding himself. He was awake most of the morning. He decided to get up about 10:00. They brought Don a new chair late yesterday evening. It is huge! We have laughed about it so much. They have dubbed it the "Escalade". It has a remote control that will raise and lower the height of the chair, the back of the chair and the leg rests. Don was excited to get into it. However it was so big that they had to transfer him to a wheelchair first. He went to Therapy earlier today. They used the e-stim on his legs and had him to do some leg exercises. After about 30 minutes they transferred him to the "Escalade" in the hall. Have I told you that this chair is huge?! Anyway we went to the dining room for lunch because the chair was to big to get into the day room with the other residents in there for lunch. Don ate all his lunch and went to therapy again about 1:00. The OT worked with him first and had him to do upper arm exercises. She also did e-stim on his arms. When she was finished his PT took over. They only worked on standing. They transferred Don from the "Escalade" to a regular straight back chair. The next time Don stood he was up for 7 minutes and 36 seconds. He had to rest a good bit in order to attempt the next round. The 2nd time he was only able to stand 4 minutes and 40 seconds. When PT was over, Don transferred to his wheelchair by standing and then the pulled one chair out and put the other one behind him. Even though the "Escalade" is the top of the line in technology, it isn't much for comfort. They are planning on trading the "Escalade" in on a more "Economical" chair on Monday. It is just too big to be of help. After PT we went to the day room and watched TV.
