Day Thirty Six

9:29 PM
Don was just waking up as I went into his room this morning. He said he was very nauseated throughout the night because of the pain. He said he slept ok. He ate his regular breakfast (grits, fried eggs and livermush). The CNA's helped to get him dressed. They started the e-stim on his legs this morning like they have been doing on his arms. He talked with both Therapists today and decided that he would not try to get up for lunch. That way he would be more rested for therapy. When they came in to change the dressing on his incision, they said that it was looking so much better and that culture came back negative for any type of infection. Donnie Lee and Taylor came by this morning to spend some time with Don. Lunch came and he didn't eat much but it was because he didn't like what they were having. He took his pain meds about 12:15 and rested until 12:45 and had me to call for the therapists to get him up. They got him up in the lift again and set him in his chair. It only took about 15 minutes or so to get him up. He did therapy on his arms until about 2:15 and then he had therapy on his legs until about 2:45. Because of the muscle tissue break down he has to have therapy on both legs, both arms and his stomach. He didn't complain about sitting up today. They were able to get him a new cushion for his wheel chair. They are working on getting a deeper seated wheel chair to support his legs better. He had over 2 1/2 hours of therapy today and didn't really complain. We both took a little nap after therapy. Supper came a little after 5:00 and he ate almost everything on his tray plus the very last piece of his pecan pie. He rested most of the evening and he called for pain meds around 7:30. About 8:00 the LPN and I changed him for bed and I set his oxygen just before 9:00. He said he had a headache and was sorry he wasn't feeling well. Please just keep praying. PT is taking a lot out of him. He is willing to do what needs to be done be it is getting harder every day.
