Day Twenty Nine Part Two

10:06 PM
Don had a pretty good day. He was really tired after the PT assessment. Kristi & I left for a couple of hours to gather some items for Don and his parents stayed with him. He wanted his pillow from home and we needed to get his TV from his shop so he would have something to watch. He also needed a clock so we brought his from home. The whole nursing home thing is very new for me. I don't know who is struggling more me or Don. Donnie Lee came by on his lunch hour along with Taylor and then he came by after work. Donnie Lee checked with the nurse on duty to find out if we could bring Ellie (our dog) to the home. They said it would be fine. Donnie came home and bathed Ellie and brought her back to the home. Don was so surprised and absolutely thrilled that Ellie was there. (Don claims Ellie as our third child). Ellie didn't quite know what to think and she was very cautious when Donnie Lee put her on Don's chest. It was like she knew something was wrong and was so careful. She eventually got comfortable enough to pull Don's hand towards her with her paw as he had quit petting her. She even made her way into his arm and tried to lay back like a baby - that's how Don usually holds her. She couldn't get comfortable enough so she eventually gave up on that. Don kept thanking Donnie all night for bringing her to see him. Don will have very busy day tomorrow and he was stressing a little over it. With the assessment of OT and the hour of PT, he is dreading it. We left about 9:00 as Don was very tired and ready for bed. As I said before, I don't have internet in his room so the daily updates may be after I get home at night. Thanks for all your continued prayers!

Day Twenty Nine

1:14 PM
Happy New Year!
We made it to the nursing home about 4:30 yesterday. It is quite different from the hospital and will take some getting use to for all of us. Don is in a semi-private room so that requires some adjusting. We have a friend that works 2nd shift here and found out this morning that we have 2 friends that work 1st shift here. I just don't know anyone one 3rd shift and that is when I am not here. They won't let me stay. They tried to tell me visiting hours were from 11:00 to 8:30. I told them that Don couldn't feed himself so I would be here every morning to feed him. I also asked if I could stay as late as possible and they agreed to let me stay last night until 11:00. It was very hard for me to leave last night. I finally got in the bed about 11:45 but was awake quite often until about 2:00. I set the alarm for 5:45 so that I could be at the nursing facility at 7:15 when breakfast is served. I made it before breakfast and Don was back to sleep. The nurses told me he had a good night and that he had been awake already. When he woke up he said that he did sleep well and that he was doing fine. PT came by after breakfast and assessed him and they will begin his routine tomorrow. He will have 1 hour of PT a day and 1 hour of OT a day. OT will have to come by tomorrow and assess him as they were not here today. Don was pretty tired after the exam. He said pretty much the only thing that bothered him was his left knee. They had suspected that it had a lot of ligament and tendon damage but we never heard that for sure. They used a device on him that doesn't touch his knee but sends magnetic waves through his knee. They did this for 30 minutes after PT today. He is eating well and isn't complaining. I don't have access to the internet from Don's room so the blog updates may be later in the day, when I go home. Please just keep praying!
