Day Fifty

9:22 PM
Well it was 7 weeks ago today that this life altering event took place. Don slept well last night. I was running late this morning by a few minutes and Don already had his breakfast tray. His roommate began to tease him that I wasn't coming. Don decided to try and feed himself. He was eating when I arrived. I asked him if he was OK feeding himself and he said he thought he could do it. Later in the day when he was telling someone about feeding himself, he said, "I'm not going to tell you it didn't hurt, but I did it". Don had a visitor from one of our friends and then he was dressed and lifted to his chair about 11:00. Another one of our friends/co-workers stopped by and seat with us in the lobby until lunch time. He had lunch in the day room and another co-worker came by to see him. Donnie Lee also came by during lunch. His OT came to get him shortly before 1:00 cutting his visitation short. He had OT first and she had him to take his shirt off and try to put it back on. He couldn't get it off without a good bit of help, but he was able to get it back on with very little help. His OT worked a lot on his arms and the PT took over about 2:00. Both therapists use e-stem (electronic stimulation) on all his limbs. I think that has strengthened his muscles. The PT also put weights on his good leg and had him to lift it in repetition to strengthen it as well. Don finished the PT around 3:00. Between 2 - 3 PM his aunt, cousin and mother came in. They were able to watch him during the therapy on his legs. After therapy we went to the day room because there was more room in there for us to visit. My mom came by while we were in the day room. Don's family stayed until about 4:00 and Don was ready to go back to his room. They used the lift to get Don back in bed. His air mattress came today. He says it feels a lot better on his hip. My mom left about 4:30. After supper the kids came by and Donnie Lee brought his dog. Kristi went to pick us up some supper and the kids stayed until 8:00. After the kids left I began to get Don ready for bed and he talked about how he hoped that the doctors would take the cast off his left arm tomorrow. We will be leaving the center about 9:00 tomorrow morning to go to Don's doctor appointment. We will be traveling by medical transport and Don will have to sit in his chair the entire time. We are hoping that we will be back by lunch time and that he will be able to have therapy tomorrow. Please pray that there will be nothing but good news tomorrow.
