Day Thirty Four Part Two

10:17 PM
Don ate his lunch in the dining room and a friend and Donnie Lee came by to visit and sat with us during that time. Don was unable to stay up for a long period time. He was ready to go back to bed at 11:45. He was only up about an hour. After a little rest, the OT came to put the ting unit back on Don's arms. She made a statement as she was putting the probes on his arms, regarding how he had absolutely no muscles left in his arms - again thanks to the Haldol. That really makes Don angry. He slept most of the afternoon. One of our neighbors came by to visit in the early afternoon. Don enjoyed the visit very much. Donnie Lee came back by on his lunch hour from work but his dad was resting so he didn't wake him. About 4:00 the PT came in and woke him up to assess Don' left leg for the insurance company. He only worked with Don about 30 minutes but it took the next two hours and two pain pills, about an hour apart, to get him settled again. He was in a lot of pain and no matter how I positioned his leg or the bed, he couldn't get relief. He began to cry and told me that he was mad for having to be there and having to go through what he has gone through. (Last week he blamed himself.) For Don to cry about pain it is EXTREME! We finally got his leg in a comfortable position but he was nauseated from the pain. He only ate his chicken sandwich for supper. He was just finishing supper when another one of our friends/co-workers came by. By the time she arrived he was feeling some better and was able to talk with her a good bit. Around 7:30 Don asked me to change his clothes and to put his hospital gown back on to get ready for bed. That was an event. I thought I could do it myself. And I did, but I don't think I will try that again. I want to do as much as I can because the staff at the nursing center is spread so thin. If I can get it done, it is handled much quicker that if I wait on them. It's not their fault, it's just the way it is. They are wonderful to Don there and will do anything we ask. It just takes a while sometimes. After I got him undressed and redressed he was wide awake and watching TV. I had another appointment this evening for my back and I left about 8:20. Kristi stayed with him until 9:00. Just keep praying! We have a meeting tomorrow at 10:30 to discuss the progress thus far and what the plans are for the next week.

Day Thirty Four

10:51
I had a doctor's appt. today and was unable to be at the nursing center this morning. My mom went to feed Don and he eat a big breakfast. They have added fried eggs to his grits and livermush. I got there about 8:45 and he was waiting on pain medicine because PT & OT was to get him up about 10:00 to go to the dinning area for lunch. The OT came in to get him dressed before they attempted to get him up. It took a bit but together we were able to get him totally dressed. They let him rest until about 10:15 and came back to use the Hoyer lift to get him out of the bed. It worked great and they had him up in just a few minutes. We are now in the dining area waiting for lunch to be served.
