Day Fifty One

10:36 PM
Oops I made a mistake in yesterday's calculation. It was 7 weeks not 8 weeks.

Don had a rough night. He woke up several times panicked and he told me that one time it was so bad, he almost had the staff to call me at home to have me to come back to the center in the middle of the night. He was crying as he was telling me all this. I fed him his breakfast and the staff got him ready for his doctor's appointment. (I forgot to mention yesterday that Don didn't feed himself at every meal. I will try to note the meals he feeds himself.) We were late in getting left for the appointment and we were just a couple minutes late in arriving at the doctor. I hadn't even finished the new patient paper work (had to do that because he had not been seen at the office) when they called us to go back. Don was able to see the doctor that performed the surgery and he was pleased with the healing process. They took x-rays and found that the pin that was exposed on the end of his thumb could be removed and that all the stitches could be taken out. They also said that he could come back in two weeks and have the other pins in his thumb and wrist removed. He said it would be 10 weeks from surgery before he could start baring weight on that wrist. This made Don a little discouraged as he thought he might be home by his 50th birthday, Feb. 13th. They fit Don with a new splint that can be removed for therapy and hygiene. It allows him more freedom of movement. We returned to the center about 2:00 and he went straight to PT. He had a little more range of motion in his left leg today than he did yesterday. OT was delayed a little but she took it a little easier on him today. Both therapists used the e-stem again today. Don was pretty tired but stayed up until a little after 4:00. The OT was actually done in his bed. They were just through with therapy when it was supper time. His parents brought him Chinese food. He napped the rest of the evening. I got him ready for bed about 8:30. The nurse came in and changed his dressing and put on his new support stockings. He is having a good bit of swelling in his thighs, calves and feet. The new stockings are longer and hopefully will help the thighs too. He finally settled down for the night about 10:00. Please keep praying!
