Day Fifty Three

Don said he slept very well last night. He was awake when I arrived. He ate all his breakfast and again he asked for more food. They brought him another egg & bacon on toast sandwich. He was ready to get up right after breakfast so after the bandage change they began the process of bathing Don and getting him dressed and up into his chair. He was up by 10:00. We went to the day room and spent sometime researching things on the internet. Kristi came by she stayed with Don while I ran to Wal-Mart to get some clothes for Don and some medicines for me. I called Kristi and she said her Dad was feeding himself lunch. I picked up lunch for Kristi and I and headed back to the center. We moved to the dining room because the day room was being used for a b-day party. After lunch we moved to the Lobby as they were having an event in the dining room. We sat in the Lobby and Don looked at some magazines and dozed. Don's parents came about 3:30 or 4:00 and just a few minutes later my parents came. We sat in the Lobby and visited until it was time for supper. We returned to the day room and Don fed himself again. He used his right hand to put the food on the fork and then switched to his left hand to bring the food to his mouth. He tried once to bring the food to his mouth using his right arm and he was in so much pain you could see it in his face. He said it still hurt to use his left hand too but not like it did. It is so hard for me to see him in so much pain just to eat. After supper I helped the CNA get Don back into bed and I changed his clothes for bedtime. We called the rest of the family back into the room shortly before 7:00. Don's parents left about 7:30 and Don dozed off to sleep. I set turned on his oxygen and got him set for bed and Kristi and I left at 9:00.
