Don slept well again last night. An ortho doctor came in about 5:20 this morning. But we were able to go back to sleep. Breakfast came early but they didn't let us select breakfast so what they brought Don to eat he didn't like. But he ate 2 bowls of apple cinnamon oatmeal and a serving of pineapple. He was really hungry at lunch and it arrived just in time. He ate a cheeseburger and fries and drank 2 sweet teas. He had chocolate cake for dessert with a carton of milk. Just as we were finishing dessert, PT came in. The were able to get Don to the side of the bed and had him to push his good foot on top of the therapist's foot - they didn't have the bed lowered enough for him to reach the floor. The swelling has improved - no lasiks today. Don was able to sit on the side of the bed, assisted, for a few minutes. He is still unable to balance himself. They had him to lean from side to side and back to front. The blisters from the fractures have made some bad sores on his body but he hasn't even mentioned them. OT is here now and they are trying to help him to be able to feed and dress him self again. Good News - Lincoln Nursing has made us a bed offer and now we are waiting on insurance approval. If approved today we will leave at 5:00 that's when they make the transfers to other facilities. If we don't get approval today it will be tomorrow at 5:00. Don already asked if I could stay with him and I had to tell him no. He was so disappointed. He told me later that he was nervous about going to another facility with no one there at night. He told me this morning that last night was the first night he was able to go to sleep without worrying about what would happen. He confessed that the reason he slept during the day was because he knew one of us would be there to make sure nothing happened. At night no one is awake to make sure that nothing goes wrong. Don is very traumatized by all that happened in ICU. He remembers telling me that they would kill him if I didn't stay with him. He asked me if he told me that and had to say yes. It is almost 3:00 now and we still don't know if we are leaving today. Please pray that Don will be and feel safe where he is going. Please pray for us during this transition.
