Day Fifty Seven

9:37 PM

It was eight weeks ago today that Don had the accident. Don said he slept well. He ate a good breakfast, feeding himself with his new eating utensils. Don slept most of the morning. He finally got dressed about 11:00. Don was waiting on a new gerichair to arrive today in order to get up. The wheelchair is just too uncomfortable for sitting long periods of time with Don's injuries. Since his chair had not arrived he didn't want to get up until time for therapy. Just before lunch his parents arrived, one of our friends and Donnie Lee. He didn't eat much lunch as he didn't like what they served. However they didn't send his new eating utensils so his mother fed him. Therapy came to get him a little after 1:00. He got over zealous and almost over did it just getting into his wheelchair. His PT was all Don required to get into his wheel chair. A big improvement from yesterday. PT continued to work strengthening his legs and was able to get him to his feet 3 different times during his hour and 15 minutes of PT. Each time he was able to stand 3 minutes and 20 seconds which was almost a minute longer each time than yesterday. His OT worked with him strengthening his arms. He also has OT for 1 hour and 15 minutes. He just increased to an extra 30 minutes of therapy per day. His PT says he will be taking his first steps next week. After therapy Don was worn out and asked to go back to bed immediately. That was about 4:30. His Therapists usually spend more than the allotted time with Don each day. They are great! Upon returning to bed his CNA for the night told him that she would bathe him and get him ready for bed. Donnie Lee came back by during his lunch break from work. By the time Don was through with the bath, Donnie Lee didn't have much time to visit. Supper came about 5:30 and Don enjoyed the pot pie so much he asked for and additional helping of it. Don's parents left about 6:15 or so and Kristi was coming in as they were leaving. As we were discussing what we would have for supper, 2 couples that we used to go to church with came by, neither one knowing that the other would be there. They visited with us until almost 7:00. Kristi went and got our supper and Don just rested. I got Don set for the night and put his oxygen on about 8:45 and left him to sleep for the night.

Also thanks for all the prayers for Donnie Lee. All his blood work came back normal!! Praise the Lord!!!
