Day Thirty Seven

9:00 PM
Don was just waking up as I came in his room again this morning. He said he slept well. He ate a good breakfast. His Physical Therapist came in early this morning and Don misunderstood what he said. Don thought that they wanted to get him early so the CNA's got him dressed and we got him medicated for PT to find out that Don misunderstood. So he was medicated which meant he slept a good bit. They changed the dressing on his incision and said that it was looking better. We questioned the Occupational Therapist as to how Don would be transported next week, by wheelchair or stretcher. She said by wheelchair more than likely. Don told her there was no way he could make a two hour round trip by transport and the appointment too in a wheelchair. So they decided they needed to get him into a Geri chair. It is similar to a recliner. They put together a brand new chair and about 1:30 got Don up. They wanted him to stay up in the chair 4-6 hours. They took him to OT first and he spent about an hour there. Then they transferred him to PT and he spent a little more than an hour there. Both therapists are trying to build his muscles up. About 4:30 they put him back to bed as the therapists leave at 5:00. Don slept most of the evening only waking to eat supper. The CNA and I changed his clothes for bed at 8:30 and set his oxygen.
