Don was awake and waiting on me this morning. I arrived just as the breakfast trays were being delivered to their hall. Don had his favorite breakfast, grits and liver mush. The only thing missing were two sunny side up eggs. His mother had made some fig preserves and brought them to him and he ate that on his toast. He rested most of the morning off and on. A friend/teacher from our school stopped in this morning and brought him a homemade pecan pie. Don was absolutely thrilled. During her visit, Don asked her where his babies were, speaking of her children. She told him what they were up to and what they had planned for the day. After she left she called back to say that her youngest daughter was helping her to make the pie and the daughter stepped back from the pie and started blowing kisses towards the pie and said there is some good wishes too. Our friend told her that would bake that right in the pie too. When I told Don about that, he gave a big smile and started to cry. Don had to have a piece of the pecan pie as a mid morning snack. A couple more of our friends/co-worker came by and they brought Don a homemade butternut pound cake. It was still warm when they brought it in. Don held off until lunch although it was very hard for him too and had a piece of butternut pound cake for dessert. He really enjoyed that pound cake too. Don told me that he had eaten some of his pecan brittle that my cousin brought him as a late night snack last night after I left. He had the CNA to get it out of the drawer for him and he shared some with her. The CNA is a friend of our kids (like another one of our kids) since before she could drive. Donnie Lee and Taylor came by too to bring Donnie Lee's new puppy by. It was the first time Don had seen it. Just as we were finishing lunch a pastor friend of Don's dad's stopped by. Mid afternoon 2 more of our friends/co-workers stopped by. One of them brought cookies - (do you see a trend here?). Their visit was great for Don too. He cut up as usual. After their visit he rested a while as he hadn't talked that much since before the surgery. He said he had a headache and got some medicine and took a nap. Late afternoon my parents and one of my nephews and his girlfriend came by. Donnie Lee also came back by on his lunch break during this time. My folks stayed with us until the supper trays came and then they left. Don didn't want what the home had fixed for supper so he had my left overs from lunch, fried rice and sesame chicken. He had another piece of pecan pie for dessert. Don wanted to try and feed him self so Kristi got the piece of pie and a fork and got him set up. He was able to feed him self although he said that it hurt quite a bit. We may try that from time to time but I don't think he is quite ready to feed himself all the time. He took another nap and told me "If I doze off, don't leave me." I told him I would stay as late as he wanted me to. Later in the evening another one of my nephews and his wife stopped by. This nephew has a motorcycle and he and his wife would ride a lot with Donnie Lee and Taylor. He asked Don if he wanted to by a motorcycle and chuckled and said he was selling his bike. Don asked him why and he said it was just to much to handle seeing all that Don has gone through and he didn't want to take a chance. Don started to cry and said "thank you". Don told my nephew that he didn't want to be the cause of him not having fun but that Don was thankful that my nephew was getting rid of the motorcycle. My nephew said he had only started the bike a few times after the accident to make sure it stayed charged. He finally felt enough time had passed and that he would be able to take the bike for a spin. He said he just couldn't do it - he was so nervous and watching every move that everyone was making that it just wasn't worth it. Don told him again that he was thankful that he was selling it. After 9:00 we got Don ready for bed and put his oxygen on. Kristi and I left him about 9:10.
