Monday December 8th 8:25 PM
Don rested fairly well last night. The hospital staff started their rounds about 4:30 this morning and from then until 8:00 it was someone in every 20 - 30 minutes. At 6:00 the trauma doctors came in but had nothing new to say. About 8:00 the ortho doctors came in to say we would not be having surgery today, but that if no one was admitted with worse injuries, Don would be having surgery on his hip/leg on Wednesday morning. They said the surgery on the hip/leg would be at least 4 hours if everything went perfect. The surgery on the elbow the same time. They are planning on just the hip/leg unless things go great and then they will try the elbow too. They say there are a lot of issues, (bleeding, time etc.) and everything will need to be working in their favor to start the second surgery. They just don't think Don will be up to two long surgeries in one day. They also said that it would be at least 3 months before he can put weight on that leg. They said we would talk about rehab when we were through with the surgeries. With only one good leg to work with it looks like rehab will be the best solution. He will be in a wheel chair but with both arms being operated on, he will be dependent on someone to get him up and down to the chair and as much as I want him home I am just not capable of lifting him.
Don really struggled today. They still have him on the delaudid pca pump and have added oxicontin by mouth. He was crying today and said he didn't know how much more he could take. Those of you who know Don well, know that he hardly ever complains about pain or discomfort and to see him crying from the pain just breaks my heart. He has had the hiccups on and off now for two days and that creates a lot of pain due to the broke ribs. He isn't quite as sore today as he was the past two days. When I left at 4:30 today he still had not eaten a full meal. He is still only eating 4-5 bites and stopping. His mother is staying the night with him tonight and I have come home to rest before the surgery. Please keep praying!!

Don is in our prayers. We serve a God who gives strength to the weak, encouragement to those who are discouraged, peace to those who are suffering and help to those in need. We serve a God that still performs miracles.
We are also praying for you and the rest of Don's family that God will comfort, strengthen and encourage each of you.
We are praying for Don's full and speedy recovery.
Our God is an awesome God - a very present help in times of trouble.
In the name of Jesus, we speak wholeness to your brokeness, peace to your anxiety, relief to you pain. May the peace of God that passes understanding dwell with you all.
Thanks to both of you!!
