Tuesday April 7th

2:21 PM
Don has been doing pretty good. He has moments of depression and it seems that it hits every night about bed time. We went to the doctor on Friday 4/3, and Don's blood pressure is high so they put him on meds for it. They also gave him some Ambien because he is not sleeping well at all. We went to the drug store to fill his RX and an hour and a half later I left with his medicine. To make a very long story as short as possible, the insurance company and the company they use to provide meds through mail order have Don and another Donald Turner mixed up. Both Don's have the same birthday, are married and have 2 children. The other Don has at least one daughter - (not sure what sex the other child is) and the one daughter is Victoria. It wasn't too funny then - but it is kinda funny now. After much questioning and answering the pharmacist told me that the other Donald was in another state all though they wouldn't tell her what state and that the other Donald was on a family insurance plan while Don, our kids and I are on individual plans. The other Donald had been getting the Ambien by mail order for years and with the mix up would not allow Don to have the medicine as it had just been filled by mail order in January. I kinda wish we knew where this other Donald lived. It might be neat since they have so much in common. Anyway Saturday morning I could hear Don snoring from his bedroom (the spare room) while I was in the kitchen. He hasn't snored like that since before the accident. He has been sleeping pretty good since Friday night. Monday he went to therapy and once again he had less grip strength and less range of motion in his right hand. His hand was swollen too. They also fitted him for a splint that will be adjusted to draw his arm in so that hopefully he will have better use of his arm/hand. He should have the splint in about a week or so. They didn't do an assessment on his legs yesterday. Today Don had a doctor's appointment with his hand doctor. They took x-rays and found that the pin had broke and separated and will have to be removed surgically. They also told us that he had arthritis in the joint and that they could fuse his thumb joint together to stop the pain. Don opted for the removal of the pin & arthritis clean up only. He said he didn't want to have the thumb joint fused at this point. They will call us in a week to let us know when the new surgery will be. To get the portion of pin out that is in the middle of his hand (also the smallest portion) they will have to re-break the bones in his hand. The larger portion of the pin is the end they have been trying to remove in the office at his appointments. I will post the date of the surgery when we are notified.
