Day Sixty Three

9:00 PM
Don couldn't make it until supper time last night. He ended up getting back in the bed before 5:00. One of friends/co-workers came about 5:30 and brought us supper from BBQ King. We were very thankful for that. Don was so happy to have a BBQ sandwich. We visited for a good bit catching up on all that has happened in the past two months. After our visit Don settled in for the night a little after 8:00. Kristi and I left just before 9:00.

Don said he slept well last night. He ate breakfast and dozed until almost 10:00. Don says he is not getting his "happy pills" until later and he thinks that is why he is sleeping so much. It very well good be the meds but the walking is probably contributing to the sleeping during the day. The CNAs started getting Don dressed about 10:00 and got him up and into a very small gerichair. They took Don to the day room while I went to the weekly meeting about Don's progress. In the meeting we discussed all that Don has accomplished in the past 2 weeks and our plans for him for the next week. They are trying to work out getting Don back to the center for rehab once he is discharged. They are also working on getting a home health nurse and a nurse's aide to be with Don once we go home. After our meeting Don informed me that they had another chair for him in his room and wanted me to go and get it. It was the original chair he had when he first came to the center. It is bigger than the one he was sitting in but not as big as the one we had borrowed. Two CNAs helped Don to transfer from the small gerichair to the bigger one. Don said it was much better than the wheelchair. One of our friends/retired co-workers came by with lunch for Don. Some folks from church also came by. Don had a great visit with those folks until it was time for therapy. Donnie Lee came by just as therapy was starting and stayed until he had to go to work. PT was first today and Don worked on all his leg exercises. After the exercises Don told the PT that he wanted to walk around the nurse's station today. Don made it out of the PT room and to the nurse's station and took a break. After resting he made it to the double doors to the lobby and rested again. Just as he started walking again one of our friends/co-workers came in the double doors. I made a comment to Don not using our friend's name about who walked in the door and he said Hi and called out our friend's name. Don walked a little more and had to rest again. His PT said that he had walked enough for the day and that he was ready for OT. I tried to measure the distance that Don walked and it was pretty close to 100 feet. Oh by the way a correction to yesterday's measurement it was 57 feet. Don, our friend and I went to OT and he began his arm exercises. Our friend left and Don continued his therapy on his arms. He was given a choice of pain management exercises or strengthening ones and he chose strengthening. Don got very discouraged during OT today. When he realizes that he can't do with his arms and hands what he used to do it really gets him down. After OT Don wasn't ready for bed so we went to the day room to wait until supper. Donnie Lee came by on his lunch break. Don eat all his supper and Donnie Lee went back to work just as Kristi came by. After Kristi and I ate Don was ready for bed. We got him back to his room a little after 7:00. The CNA got him back to bed and I helped to get him dressed for bed. Kristi and I hung around until a little after 8:00. We got him set for the night and left him to rest.
